Whilst many people think of thoroughbreds only as racehorses, there's a broad spectrum of post-racing careers for champions and slow maidens alike when they retire from the track.
Racing Victoria runs its successful Off the Track program to facilitate this transition and ensure that there are an abundance of options for horses in their second career.
We were lucky enough to head out to Ramsay Park Equestrian Services on the Mornington Peninsula with Racing Victoria Acknowledged Retrainer Katie Ramsay to learn more about how she re-educates horses for a post-racing career.
As an Acknowledged Retrainer, Katie re-educates retired racehorses for careers in anything from equestrian and polo, right through to the police force.
