Men's Festival of Racing Style Guide

The races are calling gentlemen! And guess what? It’s not just the ladies who get to have a fun with their fashion choices. While Spring is all about tradition, the relaxed atmosphere of Festival of Racing gives you the opportunity to ditch the suit and bring some happy-go-lucky flair to your race day attire. If you’re stumped for outfit ideas we’ve got a few tips on hand to ensure you’re at your dashing best.

Tailored to perfection

With the warm weather in full swing, comfort is key. A fitted chino and crisp shirt is always a failsafe combination. While it may sound simple, you can still let your own individual style shine through colour and prints. In the shirt department, checks are a winner or for something a little daring, try florals or paisley.

Jackets are not compulsory, but on cooler days a linen or cotton blazer complete with pocket square is great for a modern European look. An on-trend hot day option? Go short-sleeved in a fun summery hue (pink, baby blue) and a tailored cuffed short. For the ultimate, runway-ready look always select pieces that fit perfectly in high-quality fabrics.

Best foot forward

Stay true to the comfortable theme and swap the dress shoes for a stylish loafer in suede or polished soft leather. Tan or navy are timeless and you can add interest by looking for styles that include a buckle or jaunty tassel.

The sans socks look is very on trend at the moment and one you can definitely embrace at Festival of Racing. Just don’t forget to roll up the cuffs of your chinos for maximum x-factor! If you do prefer to wear socks, have a bit of fun and choose a bold pattern such as polka dots or argyle for a surprise pop of colour when you’re lazing about on the picnic rug.

Accessories always

Hats aren’t essential but they can add an extra flourish to a debonaire race day outfit. For a relaxed yet stylish look try a Panama or straw pork-pie hat with a band that matches the main colours of your ensemble.

Sunglasses, of course are a must. You can never go wrong with a classic Clubmaster or Wayfarer style, but for something fashion-forward pick-up some John Lennon-esque chic rounded frames in tortoiseshell. Complete the outfit with a great watch and a good quality belt that matches your shoes and you’re good to go!

Follow these tips, (as well as each race club’s dress regulations) and you’re ready for a cracking day at the races! Don’t forget to show us your OOTD by tagging #FestivalofRacing across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
